What’s this project all about?
This project investigates how abstract ideas can be communicated without relying on literal representation. Each pictogram reduces a complex concept, such as belonging, transition, or protection, into a single, distilled form. Working within a consistent system of weight, proportion, and curvature, the set balances clarity with ambiguity, allowing each symbol to remain open to interpretation while still functioning as part of a cohesive whole. The forms avoid fixed or universally recognized imagery, instead proposing an alternative visual language built on repetition, variation, and relational structure. As a system, the pictograms operate both individually and collectively, emphasizing how meaning can emerge through consistency, contrast, and context rather than explicit depiction. Try interpreting the pictograms for yourself, and see what concepts they are expressing!
